Get the edge over your competition
Welcome to Refreshing Edge. My name´s Rob Dillon, I´m a 32 year old web designer specialising in front-end web development. I´m passionate about creating great looking websites coded to the highest standards.
I´m very proud of what I do and take great pride in my work. I start by identifying the purpose of the website and examining the target audience. I then find the most effective way to communicate the websites message using design, layout and most importantly content.
Once the design is right it´s time to bring it to life with code. As a front-end developer I´m an expert with CSS and XHTML but also use PHP, jQuery (Javascript) along with AJAX when the need calls. Whilst it might look like I´ve been playing with my alphabet spaghetti those acronyms simply mean I have a strong skill-set so I can produce varied and well coded websites. I also ensure my work follows best practices including, progressive enhancement, graceful degradation, semantics and professional validity. My code is built with SEO in mind and is an integral part of my work.
All this terminology simply means your website will look great to the widest possible number of people no matter what technology they use to visit your site.
My passion drives and develops my skills which produce high value work. This means whether you need a website to communicate services, sell a product, showcase your work or simply to keep in touch with friends and family Refreshing Edge ensures success.
A passion for web design, an interest in people
One of my main attractions to web design is creating something from nothing. I love seeing my work grow from an idea developing into something that makes a real impact, especially when that work helps a client.
I love keeping in touch with the latest design trends which helps ensure my work is at the cutting edge. Throughout the day I read key blogs, news feeds, posts and (Twitter) twips. I also enjoy learning new Photoshop techniques (as demonstrated with the gruesome image above). I believe developing skills is key to making sure I stay at the sharp end of this exciting, ever evolving industry.
I found my passion for web design when I was in my early 20s. At college I studied Psychology, Sociology and Computer Sciences. I went on to work in various management positions in the drab and un-inspirational corporate world. A thirst for knowledge led me to develop my business and management skills and I became general manager for an international design, manufacturing, distribution and retail business. During this time I learnt a great deal about the logistics and running of a multi-faceted business. Today these skills and expediences help me understand my clients needs better and in turn produce more effective work.
