The smart arses of the world will be saying something along the lines of ´twice the length from the middle to the end´. For those people my services cost twice as much as half I charge.
Now we´ve got that out the way let me address the question with a little more professionalism.
I asses each job based on a number of factors including how long it´s likely to take and how complicated the work is. I can offer some initial guidelines based on a few basic questions such as, how large/many pages does the site need to be? Will you need a content management system (CMS)? Will you be selling on the site? Do you need a blog etc. It´s not until I have a detailed understanding of what you want I can quote more accurately.
Below are some very rough pricing guidelines. These are aimed at saving you time contacting me only to find I´m more expensive than your best friends dog walker (who designs websites in his spare time).
Consider that this is my full time career not some part time hobby. All my work stands up to the harshest scrutiny and I´ve been contacted to work for large creative companies who though my skills sufficient to pay me hundreds of pounds a day. Don´t worry I don´t charge my clients anywhere near this, only greedy agencies who need temporary contact staff.
A single page website is a fantastic first step. Single page websites are a great way to advertise a service or a product whilst providing useful information to your visitors (such as your contact info, location, hours of business etc). Your web presence has static content and represents great value for money. Think of this as your online business card.
Typical example of what you get:
A single page website can be yours for as little as £150 and can easily be upgraded/added to at a later date.
Your website is small in size and replicates a printed brochure. A brochure website is a cost effective method for small businesses and individuals to create an online presence. Brochure sites contain static information such as their real life counterparts.
Typical example of what you get:
The typical cost for a brochure website is around £750-£1500 depending on how many pages are required and content.
For professionals or business who want to showcase more than a static brochure site. You can start to sell your products/services “on page” and make the site as large as required.
Typical example of what you get:
Due to the complicated nature of these sites prices can vary widely. For example a 10 page site with all the features above, created as a professional business website starts from £1500. A more advanced site with basic ecommerce and some fancy effects would cost £2500 upwards.
These are large and complicated websites aimed at selling a range of products online. A complete CMS is required so you can add and edit your products details yourself. These expensive websites require a lot of back end coding and testing to make sure they work correctly. Shopping carts and payment gateways need to be integrated to the site so visitors can shop online in convenience and safety.
Typical example of what you get:
These are large and expensive sites that take a long time to setup and test. For eCommerce sites the additional services of a professional coder is required due to advanced programming and integration. eCommerce sites can often take months to create and require a lot of work before they´re ready. Once complete you will need to promote the site and add all your business and product information yourself. It would be wrong to quote standard prices without fully understanding your needs first. Expect to pay up to several thousand pounds.
Whether it be your own personal view on the world and your life or a business tool used to connect to your customers, a blog can be used to get your message across to a wide number of people.
Typical example of what you get:
The cost of a blog site varies massively depending on whether you want a fully bespoke look or if you're happy with using a standard template and you just want the basics. Installing a blog on your domain can cost as little as £100, a fully personalised one could cost between £500-£1000+
Of course I do much more than what I´ve listed and am adapt in a wide range of skills and techniques which can help you achieve success with both web and print media.
